What is a blog or what does a blog represent?

What is a blog or what does blog mean are two questions that many Internet users still often ask themselves. Well, in short, a blog is basically an online journal whereby a blogger, or a blog contributor, can digitally jot down their own thoughts, ideas, opinions, and pretty much anything else that bloggers want people to read.

Blogs are often called weblogs because, after all, they are a particular type of website, usually maintained and updated by an individual with regular event entries, situation descriptions, personal comments, or other material such as graphic images or videos. Most of the time, the entries are displayed in reverse chronological order.

Blogs are fluid and interactive platforms for bloggers to get their message across to readers, as opposed to a more static website platform.

There are many resources available on the Internet to provide you with tips and information about blogging. For example, you need to create your blog through a blogging platform like blogger.com or buy your own domain and set up your blog through a platform like WordPress. An important aspect of creating your own blog is that it enables the blogger to bond with and interact with his readers. It’s a great way to get your own thoughts out there, to convey valuable information to interested readers, or to create a web presence for your business. The options are numerous.

To achieve this, it is recommended that the blogger include an “About Us” page, where the blog owner can describe who they are and reveal the blog’s purpose to their readers.

So it goes without saying that in general the blogger needs to know the subject well enough to write regular blog posts. I say “in general” because the flexibility of a blog will allow the blogger to write a post inviting their readers to comment on a topic that is not as well known to the blogger.

This approach will further improve bloggers’ bond with readers and provide more new and unique content to your blog.

As mentioned above, blog posts need to be done regularly, but not too much if the quality of the blog posts is poor. For example, it’s better to only post one really informative and quality blog post every 2-3 days rather than several flimsy posts on a daily basis. In short, it is the quality of the mail rather than the quantity. Posting poor quality posts too often will alienate your readers.

Too often bloggers forget the need to tag their blog posts. Tags allow you to target your posts to different categories, which can then be searched by readers. For each of your posts, you should aim to have two or three tags. Use labels correctly. For example, make sure to use the same words for similar posts, but don’t assign too many tags to posts as this tends to clog categories.

Don’t have too many widgets and / or images on your blog to the point of slowing down your blog loading. Readers will come out really fast if the blog takes too long to load.

Always remember also that blogs and blog posts should be enjoyable. It is not like writing articles for article directories. A blog post should be written more as your own experiences rather than a regurgitation of a large number of researched facts. For example, one of my passions is soccer. If I were publishing a blog post about a soccer game, I would write it based on my own experiences of attending a soccer game rather than telling a lot of data about what a soccer game is: rules, the how long a game lasts, etc.

The flexibility of a blog allows the blogger to convey his message and take into account the responses or comments of his readers. It doesn’t take that long to create a blog; again, there are many tips and guidelines available on the internet.

On a more administrative level, if you set up your own blog, be sure to include a “Contact Us” page and a “Privacy Policy” page at a minimum.

Try blogging, you will find it both enjoyable and rewarding.
