Taxis in Cyprus: the fastest way to travel around the island in style

There are not many options in Cyprus for public transport, so expect to use taxis in Cyprus. Sometimes a bus may be a better option, especially for longer distances around the island.

Typical taxis in Cyprus are very comfortable Mercedes Benz with clean leather interiors. You will always travel in style. They are white or black, and you can find a busy taxi rank in most major cities. Instead of relying on a meter, agree on a fare before you leave for your destination.

When traveling by taxi to resorts from the airport, there are special offers. Don’t be tempted to take the first taxi at the airport, do your research and book online. Trust me, it will save you money in the long run.

When to take the bus

For any long-distance travel across the island, plan to take the bus (there are no trains). There are regular bus routes linking Paralimni and Protaras with Ayia Napa. During its tour, the bus stops at various beaches such as Cape Greco, Fig Tree, Nissi, and Macronissos. You can also take the bus to the Water World park. Buses run throughout the day, late into the night, and seven days a week. The Sunday schedule ends a little earlier than the rest of the week.

You can also take these buses to move between cities like Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol. You can also take the bus if you’re heading to one of the towns near Larnaca airport when you arrive, which will cost significantly less than a taxi. Most buses to and from the airport have their schedules adjusted to accommodate flight times, so you can usually expect a bus or airport shuttle to be available when you arrive.

For the more independent travelers, you can also rent your own moped to quickly travel around the city. You’ll save quite a bit compared to renting a car, and you’ll find them much easier to park. Helmets are a must, or you risk paying a fine. Another transportation alternative is to rent a quad or a 4-wheel buggy. They’re great fun to explore off-road, but keep them away from beaches.
