Kamasutra – The art of making love

The Kamasutra is a famous Indian literary text about love. The text is also about human sexual behavior, although it is not just a book as many people think, about positions in sexual relationships. It is a book about finding a partner, maintaining power in married life, committing adultery, living with a courtesan or being a courtesan, and also about sexual positions during sexual intercourse.

The name of the book, Kama Sutra, comes from two Sanskrit words, Kama which means desire / love / sex / pleasure and Sutra which means treatise. The book was composed by Vatsayayan in Sanskrit, which is the ancient literary language of India. This famous literature is widely believed to have been written sometime during the 3rd century AD in northern India, but there are complex arguments among scholars about it. Virtually nothing is known about the author except what he tells about himself. He claims to have composed the book in chastity and in the highest meditation. The book begins with a discussion of dharma (piety), artha (power), and kama (pleasure), which are known as the three goals of human life or the trinity.

The text goes directly to women but also reflects the voices of women. The Kama Sutra says that women who cannot experience the pleasures of love may begin to hate their man and even leave him for another. This type of reference in the Kama Sutra is contrary to an infinite number of references in other Hindu literature where women are supposed to be virtuous and constantly serve their husband despite all his vices.

The book can be appreciated only when the entire literature is reviewed and the literature will be appreciated only when it is practiced.
