doTERRA Review: How Kosher Is This Company?

Let’s start with a little history about the company. The company name ‘doTERRA’ is a word derived from the Latin meaning “Gift of the Earth”. It was founded in April 2008 by a group of six executives. doTERRA executives No Have an exit strategy. The company has been cash flow positive since July 2008.

doTERRA makes a bold claim to be the only company in the world to have produced CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) essential oils. Unlike other competing companies that sell essential oils, doTERRA guarantees its as pure, sure, powerfuland tried.

What exactly are CPTG essential oils?

In essence, they are the highest possible grade of essential oils available on the market today. First, they are PURE, which means they are 100% natural with no artificial ingredients, fragrances or fillers. Second, they are SAFE, which means they are certified free of pesticides and other chemical residues. Thirdly, they are POWERFUL, which means that they have been produced with standardized active compounds. Fourth, they are TESTED by independent laboratories, and not by internal staff or vendors.

What makes this network marketing company special?

Personally, I have been involved in the network marketing industry for the past 7 years and have never seen a company with as high a retention rate as doTERRA. Approximately 65-70% of all new IPCs (Independent Product Consultants) stay with the company. This statistic is three times the national average for network marketing companies.

Now the reason why I would say they have such a high retention rate is 3 times as follows:

  • The cost of membership is very low and there are no ongoing fees.
  • The company has a Loyalty Rewards Program where having a certain number of purchases a month will result in increasing cash back over time. In other words, if a new IPC is already getting around 30% off retail prices, come that many months later they’ll get an additional 30% off their purchases. That’s 60% off retail prices just for staying with the company and buying the products used.
  • doTERRA has a promotion almost every month. In fact, they just introduced a special product club where loyal customers get a free “product of the month” on top of their monthly order.

Is doTERRA a kosher company?

There are three things to keep in mind when identifying a legitimate versus an illegal opportunity. First of all, doTERRA is operating as a legal network marketing company. There is no debate here because network marketing itself is a legal industry proven by the US federal government in 1979. The next two paragraphs will determine the ethics behind doTERRA.

The second reason doTERRA is a kosher business is the initial money spent to become an IPC. it’s not go to the immediate upline. It’s paid to the company as a sort of administrative fee that also gives it access to its own replicated website that people can shop on. This is an important point because there are many network marketing companies that place too much emphasis on enrolling new distributors for immediate upline benefit. In general, this would be an unethical practice that would damage the company’s reputation. However, doTERRA is a firm company with a solid foundation. It was built and operates daily with honesty and integrity.

Third, we found that doTERRA has a modern compensation plan. There is no emphasis on “recruit, recruit, recruit” new CIPs. In fact, I have never come across a network marketing business as ethical as this one until now. The reason is that the products really work and they work fast! There are regular training webinars. There is no one yelling and yelling for you to go out and find new distributors.

Last words…

doTERRA has one of the best compensation plans in the industry that fully rewards your productivity. So if you do nothing, you get nothing. If you do a little, you get a little. If you do a lot, you get a lot, and so on.

The problem with doTERRA and 97% of kosher network marketing companies is not their products, but how they teach to find new distributors to build their business. They typically teach the “old school” paradigm of essentially harassing friends and family from one’s “hot list.”

The question is, why target people who were never interested in the first place? Why waste time? There has to be a better way and I’m glad you asked because there is. Is called attraction marketing which means we want pre-qualified leads coming to us first of all instead of us going out like headless chickens to look for them.

So when you’re ready to learn the “new school” methods, you’ll need an experienced leader like me to show you the process. Then, and only then, will your doTERRA business really take off when prospects start coming to you.
