Benefits of Multhani Mitti for hair

Caring for natural afro hair requires a regimen that consists of eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and moisturizing your curly locks. Even though my hair is protectively styled during the cold winter months, I still make sure to continue to moisturize and condition my hair and have found multani mitti clay to be the best clarifying clay that conditions and cleanses my hair. So let’s dive deeper into finding out what this natural ingredient is.

I first discovered this clay during my “slippery slope” internet searches when looking for a natural conditioning product that could condition my hair without containing parabens or sulfates. I became interested in it because it is one of the Aryuvedic products from India. ”Aryuveda” is a holistic maintenance of mind and body using the natural abundance of ”mother earth”. This product was a great discovery for me as I realized its uses would be good for my problem skin and hair. It has been used for many centuries in India and here are the benefits of this clay.

Multani mitti contains silica, calcium, iron and magnesium these minerals are essential for our body, you can imagine the great benefits they will have on your skin, I will write a post about the skin mask, however today we will focus on the skin mask. hair . I made the hair mask with the following ingredients. Silica is essential for hair structure and texture (hence the conditioning properties), Calcium is vital for fuller, thicker hair. With iron that promotes hair growth and magnesium that helps with the absorption of all these wonderful minerals.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons multani mitti
  • 1 teaspoon of amino acids
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Coconut milk – enough to mix into a smooth, slightly thick paste

applying the paste

  • Mix all the ingredients until you have a smooth paste, make sure it is not runny as you will end up with the mixture running down your neck!
  • Apply to freshly washed hair (I use castile soap to wash my hair). Others use a squeeze bottle, depending on how thick the mix is, but I just poke right in there with my fingers while finger-combing through my hair during application.
  • Wear a shower cap or cling film on your head, wrap it around the film until all the hair is under the wrap. I found this to be the best method as it traps heat. Leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes, I left mine on for about 3 hours (why not!)
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and make sure that all the mixture is washed out of the hair.
  • Style as desired, after rinsing my hair feels so soft and my curl pattern is defined.

I do my best to have this treatment biweekly, give it a try and I look forward to your feedback.

Until next time…
