Biomass residues produced from raw material production comprise forest residues such as slash heaps, sawdust, bark, coppice chips, and unused liquid from pulp mills, and agricultural residues such as straw, husks, and flour. The diversity found in Saskatchewan opens up possibilities for the strategic growth of biorefineries. Examples include chicken manure to create fuels and fertilizers; use wood dust, paper pulp, livestock, and agricultural residues to supply gaseous, liquid, and resistant fuels and chemicals; and the development of an integrated livestock function that produces horses, ethanol and biogas for round meat and bran.
