Turkey String Raise: How To Do It

Have you ever found yourself in this predicament?

You’ve just cooked a beautiful 20+ pound turkey and now it’s time to carve and serve it. But how do you get that bird from the cooking vessel to the carving board?

Especially difficult is when you’ve wrapped that bird in aluminum foil. You now find the foil attached to the bird, and as you try to lift it, there is a very good chance that a large amount of very hot and steaming turkey juice will cascade out of the foil and onto you and/or your floor.

To do?

The most convenient method of moving a cooked turkey from its place in the wrapping foil to its place in the carving dish is by using a string lifter. While double carving forks can be used, the chance of dropping the steaming hot bird remains high. Wearing gloves is definitely out of the question too!

The answer is an ancient technique, known as the Rope Raise Technique. A String Lift is exactly what the name suggests: a lifting sling for picking up large, heavy, awkward items like a cooked turkey!

The String Lift acts as a protective sling, encircling the bird and making it easy to lift and transport from the cooking pan to the carving dish.

Commercial rope hoists are available, however, in our experience, most stores don’t have hoists because people are unfamiliar with them, don’t know how to use them, and as a result, commercial rope hoists don’t sell very well. right.

HOW TO MAKE A TURKEY YARN RISER:

Cut a thick butcher’s twine 80″ long.

Knot the ends to form a bow. Put a single knot in the center of the loop.

Place the second figure-of-eight knot 3″ to the right of the first knot.

Place the third figure-of-eight knot 3″ to the left of the first knot.

Center the bird on the center knot.

Draw loops of string around and up over the wings and legs of the bird during cooking.

Use:

Unwrap the foil from the turkey breast and legs and wings.

The grip has a loop on each hand.

Carefully lift turkey from foil.

Have a helper loosen any foil that tries to stick to the turkey as it is being lifted.

Move the turkey to the cutting board and separate the sling lifter from the turkey.

There is no need to remove the riser from under the turkey while carving the bird.
