The Repetition of History: A Book Review on Nazi Germany and an American Ambassador

Well, we all hear that famous quote; “never more!” And yet, as I look at history and review what has happened, and I bring all of that to the present. In fact, I’ve noticed that history really does repeat itself, and when you’re stuck in the game, you often don’t see the obvious signs when things go off course or someone takes the wrong fork in the road.

When I see this happening as a writer, I like to bring it up, wake people up and make them realize that they are no better than the people of the past if they look the other way and don’t use their mind. sharpness to stop a future tragedy or parody.

To better illustrate this point, there is a book that I think everyone should read, especially anyone in the United States, and should reflect on how exactly NAZI Germany came about, how Hitler came to power, and how dangerous things can be when society begins to move in the wrong direction. The book that I would like to recommend is;

“In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin”, by Erik Larson, Broadway Publishers, New York, NY, 2012, 480 pages, ISBN: 978-0307408853.

There are many philosophical and ethical puzzles in this book, and it shows that it is difficult to keep the peace in the world regarding our State Department and all of our ambassadors as they travel to nations with two-bit Third World dictators. Even near-first world emerging nations often have dynamic, charismatic, and potentially terrifying leaders. Some of them have seized military force, guerrilla warfare, political insurrection, vote manipulation, or the coup d’état.

The slow rise of NAZI Germany was certainly not checked, and people should have seen it coming, and should have listened to those who were observing things that others perhaps did not see behind the scenes. Interestingly, a lot of this came to light, but nothing happened because no one bothered to do anything about it, it just went from bad to worse until it was too late. This book talks about the time period between 1934 and 1936 and leads to some of the atrocities that followed.

There were posters everywhere, but we decided not to listen and played the game of international diplomacy without regard for human rights. Shame on us, shame on the world and shame on anyone who does not read this book and does not see what is happening right now here today, as things are slowly changing, while no one pays attention, thinking that they cannot. it happens again, hoping for the best. Horse shit, it can’t happen again. Pay attention, study its history and read this book. Consider all of this and think about it.
