The New York Jets have fallen and can’t get up

The 2013 version of the New York Jets are off to another poor start to the season as usual. His latest problem occurred last Saturday night when head coach Rex Ryan decided to put quarterback Mark Sanchez out in the fourth quarter of a pointless preseason game. As a consequence of Rex Ryan’s decision, Mark Sánchez suffered a deep bruise on his shoulder. It has been reported that Sanchez may not be ready for the Jets’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There was no point in bringing Mark Sanchez back into the game. Only Rex Ryan can give an honest answer as to why he did it. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith is performing like a typical rookie quarterback who is in his first season under center. Because of last year’s performance by rookie quarterbacks Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin lll and Russell Wilson, football fans and the NFL analyst are likely hoping for a special performance from this year’s rookie class of quarterbacks. . But I’m here to tell you not to expect an MVP-like performance from Geno Smith or any other rookie quarterback this season.

Geno Smith has plenty of time to grow and mature into a starting quarterback in this league. Unfortunately, he may cost Rex Ryan his job as head coach of the New York Jets. I understand why the Jets drafted Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez clearly hasn’t done the job as the Jets’ starting quarterback. But is it Mark Sanchez’s fault that he’s not getting it? One of the ways the Jets’ front office could have helped Sanchez is by showing him that they had 100 percent confidence in him as the Jets’ starting quarterback.

The Jets’ management has failed Sanchez by not surrounding him with talent at wide receiver. The biggest blow to Sanchez’s confidence came when the Jets decided to sign former Broncos starting quarterback Tim Tebow. NFL Insiders reported that it was Jets owner Woody Johnson’s decision to bring in Tebow, not Rex Ryan. Whether or not it was Ryan’s decision to sign Tebow, it was a huge blow to Mark Sanchez’s already fragile confidence. A few years ago, the Jets were among the elite teams in the NFL. In Rex Ryan’s first two seasons, the Jets made back-to-back trips to the AFC Title Game. To me, it was pretty impressive for a head coach to pull that off in his first two seasons.

The other impressive stat about those achievements is that the Jets were a wild-card selection both times they made trips to the title game. As we fast-forward to 2013, the New York Jets are a shell of their former selves. They no longer have that vaunted defense that was run by Darrelle Revis and loudmouth linebacker Bart Scott. Darrelle Revis left the Jets to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Bart Scott was released by the Jets in February. Jets fans better hope Geno Smith can hold the fork until Mark Sanchez is healthy enough to play. If not, the Jets can start the 2013 season 0-5.

Four of the Jets’ first six games will be against playoff contenders. The Jets’ performance against those four teams could determine the Jets’ outcome for the rest of the season. These are the reasons why the New York Jets will never measure up to their sister franchise, the New York Giants. The Jets owner is focused on filling seats at the Meadowlands and creating a buzz around his team during training camp. There is nothing wrong with building a winning atmosphere around your organization. But he must back that up by bringing in top-tier talent to support his team’s antics.
