Make a first aid kit for your luxury travel vacation

A common fear of travelers on a luxury travel vacation is getting sick while traveling. From a mild case to a cold to a serious complication, there are a few simple items that any seasoned traveler should take with them on every trip. Some items are common, but if you need them right away, it’s best to have your own. Here are some great suggestions for the things you need to have in your travel first aid kit.

Medicine

The first thing all travelers, especially those on a luxury world cruise ship, should bring is their regular medication. Whether it’s something as simple as a nasal spray or items like insulin, if you use it daily at home, you should continue to do so on your travels. Make sure they are clearly marked and store them in the original prescription bottles. You’ll also want to bring anti-diarrhea medications, such as over-the-counter loperamide hydrochloride (i.e. Imodium). Be sure to read and follow the directions carefully before taking it and never use it if there is blood in your stool. You will also want to bring an anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen. This will also work as a pain reliever in some cases, but you may want to bring asprin as well, as these two medications work differently. Those who are prone to allergies or colds should pack an over-the-counter decongestant like Sudafed.

Skin care

Changes in weather and altitude can dry out your skin, so be sure to pack a generous moisturizer to apply to both your face and body. This is especially important if you are planning a luxury cruise to Alaska, as this state has a notorious weather for irritating the skin and is often overdone on a cruise. It is also important to bring plenty of sunscreen. Remember, it doesn’t have to be sunny outside to be burned! You should also bring bug spray, just in case.

Personal hygiene

Of course, you should bring the usual first aid kit items on your luxury vacation. Plasters, Neosporin, medical tape, tweezers and scissors. Make sure these are not kept in your carry-on or they will be confiscated. Be sure to prepare personal hygiene items as well. Antibacterial handwash, mouthwash, and aloe vera gel are good ideas. Women should make sure to always carry items for their menstrual cycle, even if they are not expecting to start their period. Changes in weather or altitude can cause an early cycle. It is also important that you bring all the contraceptive items yourself, so that you can be sure of the quality and origin.

These are good starting points, but your luxury travel vacation first aid kit is up to you. You can add or subtract items that best suit your individual needs and preferences. Of course, before taking any medication, check with your doctor. Read the instructions for over-the-counter creams or medications, and don’t be afraid to call your doctor on vacation if you have any questions.
