He cries almost like a baby, almost looks like one, and acts like one in many ways; that’s why it’s called a baby bush. Bush babies (also known as Lesser Greyhounds) are nocturnal creatures. They have digits like those of a man except the little finger which is almost nonexistent. Their eyes are luminous at night and their fur is tawny. It is a very agile, lively creature and very, very entertaining to watch.

There are many wildlife enthusiasts like me who would love to know more about this and other West African wildlife. If you visit the Drill Ranch, the Cameroonian mountain forests, or even the Agbokim Falls, all in the Cross River State of Nigeria and its border with Cameroon, you are sure to see many of these creatures in the wild. All you need is a guide and safe accommodation, as well as some mobility, and you can explore the beauty and innocence of the African jungle.

Of course, the state is also teeming with rich vegetation, minerals (some very precious; don’t tell anyone), and human potential not to mention the mother beauty and diversity of its landscape. The culture of the people, a topic of greater discussion, is also a sight to behold. Talk about their masquerades, men’s and women’s initiation ceremonies, seasonal festivals just to name a few, and then the more modern Calabar Christmas Carnival, which has become an annual celebration.

This region also has the best hospitality services and visitors will be amazed to see five star hotels located in very remote places like Obudu and Ikom, which is where I live.

Exploring the lush flora and fauna of the Cross River State is a must for all nature lovers like me.
