How to stop sweating profusely

Sweating is a normal way the body releases heat and cools itself during hot weather, when doing physical activities like sports and exercise, but if you sweat excessively even under normal conditions without strenuous physical activity, you may have hyperhidrosis. You need to know your health status and learn how to stop sweating profusely to avoid embarrassing situations.

Hyperhidrosis is the condition in which perspiration has increased even under normal conditions in areas of the body where there is a concentration of sweat glands such as the feet, the palms of the hands, the armpits and the groin. Although this condition is not life-threatening, it brings so much discomfort and embarrassment which is why it is important that you know how to stop sweating profusely.

You have to make sure that what you have is hyperhidrosis and not something else. Excessive sweating could be a symptom of other health problems such as hyperthyroidism, endocrine diseases, anxiety or panic disorder, and other health problems. It is best to consult a doctor if you notice unusual or excessive sweating problems.

If your problem is hyperhidrosis, there are treatments that will help you stop sweating excessively. Sweating problems make you prone to bacteria that cause body odor. The affected areas sometimes become red and swollen. Using antiseptic soap and paying attention to your hygiene helps fight bacteria.

There are commercial products that can help you stop sweating profusely. Antiperspirant deodorant is an effective product to stop perspiration although it is only used for underarm sweating problems. In most cases, this is only a temporary fix for excessive underarm sweating, but it’s also helpful in avoiding embarrassing social situations, such as having wet armpits during social functions. Prescription and nonprescription aluminum chloride solution is also helpful for other areas such as the feet, palms, and groin.

Another way to stop sweating profusely is to select the right type of clothing. Choose clothing that is made of natural material that keeps you ventilated or allows good air circulation like cotton. Avoid synthetic clothing material that promotes sweating such as polyester.

A more aggressive way to stop profuse sweating is through surgery. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) is a surgical treatment to stop excessive sweating. This is a surgical procedure performed on the sweat glands to reduce sweating problems. Keep in mind that surgeries can have irreversible side effects and you should try all possible options before taking the drastic step of surgery. There are reports that side effects of ETS surgery are compensatory sweating or perspiration in different parts of the body.
