How to make outdated content work for you

Most eCommerce websites have user-generated content such as product reviews, ratings, blogs, and forums.

While the content of blogs and forums remains intact regardless of current events, user-generated content such as product reviews, comments, and even ratings become stale.

Once a product or offer has run its course, webmasters mindlessly delete it along with the product page.

Although webmasters are doing the right thing by removing outdated pages, are they doing the right thing by removing user-generated content along with them?

The answer is a definit no. By removing a page and the content along with it, the website loses many aspects.

  • Lose a page indexed by search engines.
  • You lose SEO-rich content found within user-generated product reviews and comments.
  • Lose a page with a page range.
  • It gives the impression that user opinions are expendable.

So what’s a webmaster to do with an outdated product page? How will you ensure that you won’t have a high bounce rate?

You can avoid both pitfalls by increasing the relevancy of that page by:

  • Include information related to the product
  • Include the latest arrivals or information on the latest available deals.

These are just two methods and a much more enterprising webmaster can surely come up with much better ways to increase page relevancy.

So instead of just deleting a page and losing the quality associated with it, make the page much more relevant. So think before you hit delete, and make sure you keep up the hype generated by user-generated content.
