The island of Ireland is about the same size as England or Scotland, and lies directly west of them, with the Irish Sea separating England/Scotland from Ireland. Actually, Galway City is just across the island from Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Even though this area is getting more popular these days, there is still a nice and friendly atmosphere. If you’re not from this area, the accent just says “friendly” for most vacationers! But first, settle into one of the several quaint Bed and Breakfasts there or within the county, and then you can explore and enjoy on your own.

Galway Beach is a great place to relax and let the kids enjoy the sun, water and sand. When they’re on vacation all they want to do is have fun! There are hiking and biking trails throughout the county and along the coast, if you can follow them! When everyone decides they’re hungry, kids are welcome in most restaurants and pubs, and there’s plenty to choose from. At this time, you can enjoy a cold mug of beer in a relaxing beer garden. The Irish love the outdoors, and you’ll find plenty to do as you explore the area.

Festivals are often held in the parks and on Galway Bay. Festivals vary in attractions, from arts or arts and crafts festivals to simply celebrating the season. Take a look around the internet and you can find when they are and put them on your “to do” list. If you want to investigate the culture side, the Galway Museum will let you, but it is primarily a Folk Museum for the surrounding counties. If you really want to make a day of history and art museum hunting, you will have to venture to Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Dublin is only a two hour drive directly across from Galway. And there are also many theaters for theatrical productions, or you can stay in Galway and see one of the four cinemas in the county.
