Belly Button Piercing Treatment

The navel piercing is usually done above the navel, although sometimes it is also done below it. It is important to know that two piercings cannot be done simultaneously, because the body tissues shrink during the healing process and the channels interfere with each other to form freely. However, it is possible to have a piercing above and below the navel at the same time.

Navel piercing treatment

The navel is a place where body dirt accumulates, which can cause a variety of infections. If the navel has not dried completely, it may be subject to bacteria growth. Therefore, as soon as you notice infections, inflammation and redness or feel itchiness or other unusual symptoms, you should take immediate action to treat them.

The navel piercing is located in one of the most flexible parts of the body. Constant movement from the waist can injure fresh piercings, and the clothing you wear constantly rubs and touches the wound. With proper treatment, the navel wound heals completely within 3-4 months, but in some cases the healing process can take up to 12 months.

The duration of healing depends on several factors such as the state of your health, your weight, whether you follow a diet, the clothes you wear, your occupation and, most importantly, the care with which you take care of it. If you are concerned about possible difficulties with healing, it is better to insert a banana bar first than a ring to make sure it does not rotate.

For the first 4-5 days after the piercing, your navel usually looks fine, and then you may notice some redness where the jewelry enters the body. A crust may start to form around the piercing, but you don’t have to worry because these are just dead white blood cells. There will be a small amount of fluid at the piercing site which is a sign that your body is fighting foreign matter. If it is a profuse discharge and the fluid turns yellowish or you feel pain and you see excessive redness, it could be a symptom of a possible infection.

In 6-8 weeks, the fluid discharge should subside and only some redness should remain around the piercing. The wound is not completely healed until the redness is completely gone. If you stop treating the wound before it heals, you can get an infection.

navel piercing jewelry

Bananas and rings sized 1.6mm x 10mm/12mm are used for a standard navel starter. Jewelry such as rings with pendants or with large irregular edges (in the shape of a flower, for example) cannot be applied for the initial piercing. During pregnancy it is recommended to replace the navel ornament with a 1.6mm x 16mm/18mm flexible Teflon bar. The change of the ornament should be done only after complete healing of the wounds. If the piercing is done below the navel, the banana bar (standard navel piercing jewelry in the form of a curved pin with or without a gemstone) can also be inserted upside down.

Wear piercing during pregnancy

You can wear your navel piercing up to 6 months of pregnancy. However, it all depends on the woman’s health status. The piercing jewelry should then be removed or replaced with a large ring made of bioplastic.
