Akismet – Pros and cons of an amazing spam filter

Akismet pros and cons!

Since the beginning of the internet and sending emails became more and more popular, it brought spam and since then it has slowed down a bit, but it never stops! The only reason it has slowed down a bit is because of the different spam filters that help prevent unwanted messages from reaching your inbox.

For all those interested in creating spam blogs on WordPress, you have met the enemy and you are the victor. However, just as there are two sides to every story, not everyone is thrilled with the number one WordPress spam filter, called Akismet.

This easily downloadable software is a simplified filter that catches spam and prevents it from reaching your blog. Mainly, it will try to prevent someone from commenting on your web pages. This special filter manages by combining the various components of spam found on other blogs that participate in the ping. By generating a set of rules that govern this spam, this is basically how Akismet works. Sort of a conglomeration of many blogs that set the pace as commenters spam random blogs, though some are keyword targeted. Spammers only have to use one keyword phrase to find a great list of WordPress blogs. There are some very powerful ‘scrapers’ that do this and most of the time, the result is spam!

Akismet was founded and started in October 2005. It is estimated that the massive amount of spam that has been blocked is over 10 billion. Although it does a good job, the downside is that many have complained that comments with good intentions and useful information get flagged. The biggest problem is that once Akismet catches you as a spammer… It’s hard to comment on WordPress blogs!

All in all, most of those who use this plugin are satisfied. You will find this plugin most useful by doing a simple Google search. You will need a simple ID that is obtained when you register with the software.
