Adidas SL 72 – A Brief History

Originally designed for the Munich Olympics and traditionally worn on the podium. The Adidas SL-72 has become an iconic shoe in its own right. Celebrating 60 years of Adidas’ iconic Soles & Stripes, they celebrate the brand’s dominance of the court and terrace.

The original Adidas SL72 was constructed from a breathable nylon fabric, but the shoe’s most distinctive features were the traction-tread outsole, integrated heel counter, and lightweight design, hence the name Adidas SL72 (Super Light).

The original was released as a running/jogging shoe and launched with a few low-key colors, unlike its predecessor, the sl73, which came in bright colors like bright orange and yellow.

They gained more and more recognition for the smart casual fashion of the ’80s, whose collection of iconic Adidas shoes, like the Adidas Sl72, grew and grew.

The Adidas SL72 has always been built with a blend of nylon and suede fabric to create a truly lightweight running shoe. Many of the popular shoes of the time were made in rather understated colors, such as blues and browns. These Adidas SL72s were mostly seen on the podiums at the 1972 Olympic Games and have gained a cult following among many.

Adidas recently launched a range of original Star Wars-inspired clothing, jackets and sneakers. The first collection was inspired by the main characters of the saga and then the ‘Vehicle’ pack focused on a mix of vehicles from the Rebel and Galactic Empire squadrons, now the collection continues with the Han Solo-inspired SL72s.

The Han Solo SL72 with its black silver top, inspired by the time when Han was frozen in carbonite, is rendered beautifully in the image printed on the tongue. Other Star Wars-inspired features include Han Solo details such as the red sides of his pants mimicked by the stitched stripe on the back of the heel and the man himself immortalized on the side, with ‘HAN SOLO 77’ replacing the usual logo engraving. .

These classic sneakers will always command great respect among the casuals as a group and have been seen on many soccer terraces across the country alongside other classics such as the Adidas Trimm Trabbs, Adidas Forrest Hills and Adidas Gazelles.
