Visit Venice for your holidays in Italy

If you go on vacation to Italy, it is practically necessary that you visit Venice. Everyone who has been to Italy has an almost classic image of them in a “vaporetti” or a “gondola” with a canal in the background. This famous northern Italian city is occasionally well known as the city of water, the city of bridges, and the city of lights. Vaporetti are motorized buses used by Venetians to transport themselves through the city’s canals, while the gondola is a Venetian boat now used mainly by tourists and often for wedding ceremonies or funerals. The city is made up of several small islands, 118 to be exact, hence the importance of water transport and the many bridges.

There are 150 channels and 400 bridges. There are also several art galleries and all together they make for an exciting tour when you are on vacation in Italy.

You will be provided with a Venice card that allows you free access for seven days to the museums and casinos. Plus, with this card you get free vaporetto or water bus services, plus a free boat ride from the airport. Venice airport is on the main land and has been recently renovated. You can go to the train station from here to reach other parts of Venice. If you’re driving on your Italy vacation, you can also get to Venice by car, but you’ll need to take a ferry. The least expensive garage in Venice is the Tronchetta garage, so you can park there and take a public boat or hire a personal water taxi which can cost. You’ll be able to get one-way vaporetti tickets, all-day passes, or if you’ll be spending more time here during your Italy vacation, you can also get a 72-hour pass.

If you are in Venice you have to tour the city by gondola. There are several tours available. For something really different during your Italy vacation in Venice and if you’re really in the mood for it, maybe you can even take what’s called a serenade tour. The tour is accompanied by a singer (usually a baritone) and a guitarist or someone who plays the accordion. Several tours of one depart from the docks near the hotels in Venice. Your journey should be just under an hour and you may see iconic landmarks such as the Church of Santa Maria Formosa and the Bridge of Sighs.

This bridge got its name because it is said that the prisoners would get their last view of the city of Venice from here on their way to their confinement. If you’re in Venice for your Italian vacation with your significant other, be sure to take a gondola ride that will pass under this bridge at sunset. Legend says that lovers will be positive eternal love if they kiss under this bridge at sunset.

Venice is often packed with tourists in the summer months, so visit out of season if you can. Or you can easily opt for a private gondola tour which may be more expensive but is away from all the crowds.
