Use the green screen to create fantasy photos

Green screen fantasy photography is one of the ways my small photography studio has gained more and more popularity over the last 6 months. Green projection, also known as chroma keying, is often the perfect advantage a small studio can use to knock out their competition. I have noticed that the big studios don’t even bother to think about such a useful and innovative tool. While I was in my little studio, just using that amazing tool, I was able to bring something new and fresh to the business. If you want to take your business one step further and separate yourself from the photography crowd, one of the possibilities is to specialize in the fantasy photography niche.

When it comes to fantasy photography, we can talk about three main niches: role-playing games, science fiction, and fairy tales. Science fiction is the most popular and is suitable for all ages, from children to adults. In that niche, the most obvious is the “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” genre. In just a few minutes you can find thousands of cost-players who will be happy to put on a costume, whenever they can, and take a photo. You can get amazing ideas from your clients about the scene and background they would like to be in.

Another niche of fantasy photography includes “Dungeons and Dragons” role-playing games and stories like “The Lord of the Rings,” for example. It’s going to be a lot of fun to take this kind of photos, shoot your client in different costumes in front of the green screen, holding the weapon of his choice. Then use digital backgrounds like stunning nature scenes and ancient castles.

Fairy tales are the third category of fantasy niches. You will be surprised to know that there is a large group of people who enjoy and love this type of photography. Not only do little kids and their mothers like fairy tale photos, they also like high school seniors. To make sure you give them instant magic and joyous memories, I would consider taking your pictures in a mystical landscape in your prom dress.

For a fairy tale setting, choose any gentle creature for your Clint and place them in mystical landscapes that give them a sense of mystery.

Anime and video games are another niche that can also fit in as fantasy photography. To find inspiring places, look for Japanese and Chinese images.

While using green screen for your fantasy photography, it doesn’t matter how weird or outlandish the costume may be, and what kind of background you’ve chosen. Positioning your client in the image that will look believable to the customer, will be last and foremost and you will have repeat business for years to come.
