Painting Idea: Four Awesome Ways To Make Ordinary Rooms Exciting

Do you need a new idea to paint? Do you want to make your house more sellable? Here are 4 ways you can turn your home into a feast for the eyes. All 4 are interior painting ideas and inexpensive ways to redecorate your home.

1. How to Liven Up a Bathroom or Kid’s Room With Fun Tropical Designs – One of my painting clients was always good at this. He loved wallpapering and did neat designs in the bathrooms. Things like using wavy stripes on the top half of the wall. And dots on the bottom half with a “fun” kind of border in the middle separating the two.

Made it look like the beach scene. They also had a summer house on the lake and you got the “feel” of everything in their main house as well as the main bathroom downstairs by the kitchen. Everything was done in light, tropical, pastel colors.

2. Kitchen Paint Ideas: How to enliven kitchens, even bathrooms and bedrooms with painted stripes. I painted stripes in a bathroom in the upstairs hallway for another client. They also have a fun type of beach design. Yes, you guessed it, they also have a beach house. It’s a condo on Lake Michigan and this seems to be reflected in its decor as well.

Again, his main home is also the one I painted stripes on. The stripes were a light blue and a lime color. We used a carpenter’s level to make the lines straight and level vertically. And we use a special blue painter’s tape that won’t “bleed” and is great for painting nice sharp looking stripes.

When it was finished, his wife bought a shower curtain, some china containers for the sink area, and a wastebasket. They were all colors that were like stripes. The colors and design of that bathroom make you feel good. They make you feel like you are on vacation at the beach!

3. Bedroom Paint Ideas: Here’s how to make your bedroom and even the ceilings in game rooms and home theaters come to life when the lights are dim or dim. Imagine turning off the lights at night and it looks like someone removed the roof and you are looking up at the night sky.

This is one of the best bedroom painting ideas. It feels like you are sleeping outside on a warm night under the stars.

That is exactly the look you can achieve with this paint idea. It’s called being an illusionist because you’re creating the illusion that you’re actually looking at the night sky, a night sky full of stars that really twinkle! And it doesn’t have to seem totally wishful thinking. It can be a light show with neon colors, spaceships, and sci-fi characters.

4. Faux paint is another great inexpensive way to liven up rooms. By picking up a “glaze booklet” at any paint store (Benjamin Moore has a really good one), you can learn how to make several basic faux designs that can make any dining room, bathroom, and even bedroom look like a million bucks. My favorite design is called “color wash” – a painting idea that looks fantastic in any home!

In fact, there are million dollar mansions that have beautiful faux painted walls. By using the instructions provided in Benjamin Moore’s “Glazes” manual and practicing on washable vinyl sheets, he’ll become a master of faux painting in no time.

After mastering 4 or 5 basic faux designs, you can even attend workshops where you can learn advanced designs like marbling. These workshops can be expensive, but they are worth it once you consider how much you can charge per hour for your work.
