If it no longer works for you, change the dance!

Some people say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you find that things are working well in your life, like a well-oiled machine, keep doing what you are doing. If it is not broke, do not fix it! Instead, wash, rinse, and repeat. And at that point, you find yourself sitting in a space of gratitude for the blessings that have been bestowed upon you. But if you are starting to see negative patterns in your life and feel like you are continually hitting a brick wall, you may need to change the dance. Change things up a bit and seek your own personal growth.

We all develop defense mechanisms to deal with challenges and painful feelings or moments in our lives to simply push us through the most difficult times. Sometimes we develop these mechanisms without even knowing it. And it’s those defense mechanisms that have helped us get through the greatest pain in the fastest period of time, which we generally hold onto subconsciously. This is in its simplest form, muscle memory and a very natural thing to do. But there comes a time when these defense mechanisms no longer work to serve your highest good, so it’s time to change the dance.

Remember that with our life experiences, we are constantly changing throughout the course of our lives, so why would we expect these same defense mechanisms to always work? Most defense mechanisms developed in childhood and, in some cases, very negatively. A child who was ignored, for example, may have gone to school to get some kind of recognition. But what that boy really did was stop dealing with negative inner feelings. And dealing with deep inner feelings is the only way to truly release pain and overcome the need to be defensive to get what we want out of life in a healthy way.

We have the ability to heal our pain by spreading patterns that no longer serve us. Sitting with our pain or discomfort and really feeling it is the only way to release it. As painful as it may be, only then can you look inward to find your truth and use that truth to deal with a situation or feeling to change the outcome of what appears to be the brick wall. Then you can search from within for what you want by adjusting and modifying yourself and your actions so that you can get it.

So essentially, if things aren’t working the way you expected, change the dance. In this new year ahead, try to lower your defenses and start using your mind, heart, and spirit to find your own sense of peace and joy within yourself. You can then find your inner power to kick-start new processes to get exactly what you’re looking for in life. Remember, your peace and happiness begin and end with you and your mind! This, dear friends, was my lesson once again throughout this year. Life is a work in progress always!
