Bhu: Sattva: Inspired by Rafflesia

A fairly popular Indian brand of organic clothing, Bhu: sattva is for all socially and environmentally conscious eco-fashionistas. This Gujarat-based organic clothing brand has rightly catapulted into popularity with its authentic pure organic clothing line that uses fabrics made from natural fibers along with natural and herbal dyes without a trace of any chemicals. After displaying her collection for three seasons at Lakme Fashion Week, Bhu: sattva returns for the fourth season with its immaculate line of organic designer suits inspired by the very exotic Rafflesia.

It’s the amazing Rafflesia that captured DigVijay Singh’s fantasy and ended up being his muse for this season’s collection. The designer reportedly said that this inspiration was an effort to preserve the allure of nature’s gifts. A rare species of flower found in Southeast Asia, especially the peninsula of Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, rafflesia is believed to be the largest single flower in the world. A fully flowered Rafflesia can be up to a meter wide in diameter and can weigh up to 10 kilograms. This deep orange flower is truly a sight, no doubt, mainly due to its five striking, leathery and velvety petals, with cream-colored growths that look like warts. Being a rare species due to its inherent factors and characteristics, ‘Tidak Ada Lagi’, which translates to ‘not many left’ in English, is indeed quite a fitting subject for this year’s Rafflesia-inspired Bhu: ssatva collection. by Digvijay Singh.

A different range of organic fabrics has been used in this collection which mainly included cottons and silks such as modal, matka, kora silk, etc. and the color palette is limited to neutrals and pastels to make it look soft and elegant. In addition to the flowing, feminine silhouettes, a distinctive feature of this collection is the use of French knots as surface ornamentation, something that again draws inspiration from the Rafflesia texture.
